The data center of Amazon in Bahrain—described as the largest American data hub in the region—has been targeted in a drone strike by the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC).

The attack followed intelligence identifying the facility’s role in supporting the military and intelligence activities of hostile actors.Amazon’s regional office in Bahrain, launched in 2019, has been regarded as the main gateway for the company’s advanced cloud services across the Persian Gulf and the broader Middle East. The center is considered the leading provider of Amazon services in the region, offering the widest range of cloud solutions in the Middle East.Since November 2019, the site has also become one of the first global locations to offer AWS Ground Station services, enabling organizations to communicate with satellites, receive and process data, and scale space operations without building their own ground infrastructure.According to an official statement from Amazon, the scale of the damage is extensive. The company stated that two facilities in the UAE were directly struck, while a center in Bahrain sustained serious physical damage due to an explosion near the premises. In recent years, United States Department of Defense has made Amazon one of its primary contractors, signing multiple strategic agreements for cloud services with the Pentagon and other US military institutions. In addition to the recent operation in Bahrain, the IRGC has struck two other strategic US and Israeli-linked centers in the region in recent days.

These targets included an Amazon Web Services (AWS) data center in the UAE and a Microsoft office in Be’er Sheva’s technology park in the occupied territories—moves described as a major blow to the enemy’s technological and intelligence infrastructure.Amazon currently serves more than 310 million active customers worldwide.
